If graduation announcements do not include an invitation to an event, you may send them out to family and friends any time in the month before and up to 6 weeks after the graduation ceremony.
A graduation announcement should include the graduate's name, the year they are graduating, what school they are graduating from, and what institution they will be attending next (if any). If the graduate is graduating from college or an even higher institution, you may also include the major or specialty of the graduate. Best practice for graduation announcements is to also include a professional photo of the graduate, such as a senior portrait, but it's not required.
If you're not sending out a separate announcement, but are having a graduation party, you may include all of what goes in a graduation announcement, as well as the details of your party. It'll be a two-in-one approach that will save time and money!
Commencement invitations are often sent out by the school or university to family of the graduating class, as well as faculty of the school. These are a friendly, professional, and classic gesture and may not require an RSVP (depending on the graduation size and the school's policies and practices).
